Hi – installed on second attempt. Went straight to step 7 automatically.
I think the difference on the second attempt was opened the PdaNet+ app on my phone once the driver installed. Root Checker v2.75 confirmed a successful rot.

Hi, thanks for this guys. I successfully rooted my alps N9600, (similar to ZOPO ZP990) Android 4.2.1 after the second attempt.
