Hi all, I took delivery of a Freelander PX2 phablet (Android 4.2.2)last week. I’m a complete novice and while I’ve been playing with it and trying to discover how to use it, three times it has reverted to a black screen with only Chinese characters. The first time I started to press various lines of script, the on/off switch and the volume switch and lo and behold the tablet came back to life! I really don’t know what I did. The second time I couldn’t get it back at all but decided to let the tablet run down it’s battery. When the battery was empty I plugged the charger in and for a split second the home screen appeared. Full of hope, I charged the battery fully and when I switched back on I had a normal screen again. The third time, a friend started pressing different things and the screen came back again but she said that she didn’t know what caused it to come back to life. Can anybody please explain why this may have happened and suggest what I can do if it occurs again. There doesn’t seem to be much, if any, support on the internet, nor is the instruction manual any help at all. I bet the solution is very simple….but, there again, so am I!!! Thanks in advance.

Pressing power and volume buttons simultaneously, while the device is off, you go into recovery mode, and if your recovery image is Chinese, you have no luck. Somebody posted a translation on this forum, you can try to find it.

If you change the Android OS language to chinese by accident, you can change the language back to your language again. You just need to remember the menu icon. Menu text changes with language, but icons don’t. So, when your device is in your language, just look and remember which menu item icon goes to language settings.

Thank you, umit. So it would seem that I had pressed both the volume and power buttons at the same time? That would be possible indeed. However the recovery mode screen only shows Chinese script and that’s where I have the problem…I don’t know what to do to get my tablet back to normal quickly. I read a post yesterday somewhere, whilst searching for answers, where there was a translation from Chinese to English of one of the screens which I get in factory mode, and one of the lines read “Clear/Remove/reset e MMC”. Do you think that if I selected that line (if that were possible) that my tablet would revert to normal? Or is there another way?

No. You may brick your device with “Clear/Remove/reset e MMC” option. You need to find “Reboot” or something similar. Select it using volume buttons and execute it using power button.
