Today I was happy to see there is a new arrival at geekbuying featuring Firefox OS:

With so much Android OS talk, it is easy to forget there are viable alternatives to Google’s system.

This news might seem like a little, but it is big for the open source movement. Since Android is showing a tighter integration to Google services with each release, it is a breath of fresh air to see competition coming from more open community projects.

The hardware itself for this phone can be switched to using Android (it is totally fair for users to have the choice); but what a happy time to see the boldness of our beloved Mozilla launching a smart-phone OS when not even Microsoft with all its financial muscle has been able to dethrone the big players.

It might feel a bit like the Opera web browser. Not a huge amount of installs in number, but it’s great to know the option is there. More freedom and power for Internet users overall.

Maybe -just maybe- this is a step in the right direction for Firefox OS to conquer the mobile market where there isn’t fierce competition (yet): the $25 smart-phone one!

Decent price/quality ratio. I’m really curious how Firefox OS would work. It’s unclear to me what the deal is with the new OS.
How would the app store do? Does Firefox OS even have the possibility to have apps?

I think Mozilla is too late to make their OS successful.

Looks pretty decent. The only problem I have is that it is still a brand new OS for these devices, and it will take them a while to catch up with Android and iOS. They just have too much third party support. I wrote a quick article on the new OS: h ttp://gadgetised.com/firefox-os-smartphones-mozilla/
