I’ve been running stock Android OS for a while now and I’m kind of getting bored with it. I’ve heard a lot of great things about rooting your droid but I also heard a lot of horror stories. I’m not a real tech guy and I would probably screw up my phone if I ever attempt to root my phone on my own and shops charge crazy amounts of money for rooting services. Is there any easy way to root an Android, like a one click program or app or something like that?

Yes but it depends upon the processor and the version of Android installed. For example there are some one click solutions for Chinese MTK phones, which runs a exploit to obtain root. Look around the various discussion forums for your phone and see if you can find anything.

It always depends on the version of android installed unless you do via a computer.

Rooting is the Android equivalent of jailbreaking, a means of unlocking the operating system so you can install unapproved (by Google) apps, update the OS, replace the firmware, overclock (or underclock) the processor, customize just about anything, and so on.

Of course, for the average user, rooting sounds like — and can be — a scary process. After all, “rooting” around in your smartphone’s core software might seem like a recipe for disaster. One wrong move and you could end up with bricked handset.
