MemberSomehow I’ve never heard of these before today while I was browsing through a website.
It allows you to turn your TV into an Android PC with internet access, the possibility to play games and watch videos in almost every format. You will obviously need a TV with HDMI support.

MemberHmmm… I don’t see myself buying this. I mean there are already a lot of cheap ways to connect a regular PC or a laptop to a TV. Plus I’m not sure how user-friendly this device would be unless your TV has touch screen cabapability.

MemberIt actually has a few advantages over connecting a regular PC or a laptop to a TV.
1. It saves you the trouble of have to connect your device to it, so while you’re using your laptop/PC someone else can be using it.
2. To people that don’t own a PC its a good alternative. And about the device being user-friendly, the Android OS can be used with a mouse.

MemberTrue but there are android tablets that have mini HDMI ports. Also, do these Android set top boxes support data over 3G?

MemberIt’s actually called a Roku and it’s pretty kick-butt, especially considering the alternatives (purchasing a smart tv, or buying a *sigh* Apple TV box). Essentially you can turn your television into a giant android based tablet. Okay, I exaggerate but it’s still pretty cool. You can stream hulu, netflixs, play games, etc… from your tv.

MemberI have heard of these tools too. They sound really cool. one of my friend bought one and it seems amazing. You can turn your TV into a multitool…

ParticipantI don’t think I’d buy one of these. Can’t you achieve the same results with a tablet connected through the HDMI port?

Can’t you achieve the same results with a tablet connected through the HDMI port?Basically there are only 3-4 SOCs on the market at any one time, and these get used in all devices from tablets, to TV Sticks to netbooks. So a tablet is almost the same thing, with a screen bolted on top.
On the other hand, they are getting very cheap compared to anything else, for 40 dollars you can get the MK808, which is an RK3066 dual core device. I intend to buy one to use as a low power PC, should be using less than 3W in full load, compared to 100 – 200W for a regular PC.

MemberI concur with the person above mentioning the Roku player. I actually have one of them hooked up to my TV and it works wonders. I am able to play movies, watch youtube, play games, and even control the player with my cellphone. Well worth the money.

ParticipantNice. I’m going to get a new TV next month, I might see if we have more money for an Android TV box since you guys say it’s cheap.
I think my father will appreciate it since he’s been ranting about playing games in his small tablet.October 19, 2013 at 7:13 PM #14704ChiChai
ParticipantOh, I just realised the advantage of an Android TV over other devices that you can hook up to your TV. Well, if you have this one, you don’t have to remove it repeatedly since the device is “dedicated” to the TV, and won’t have other uses besides accessing Android features through your TV.

ParticipantAnyone buy a neo x7? I got my neo x7 last month from geekbuying and find that they held a promotion, buy x7 get a free gamepad.
I asked them if they could send the free gamepad to me, the answer is no. What’s a pity. ok, it’s doesn’t matter. My point is their blog, so helpful that i change my tv box to a game console by reading the blog.July 17, 2014 at 7:37 AM #17759hun10sta
ParticipantHey guys. I really want to get a TV box, but I’m not sure what kind I should get. I’ve been eyeing some good ones over on Amazon, but reading the reviews, the majority of them report that they can’t stream Netflix or Hulu properly (which blows my mind, why make one of these if they don’t support that).
Can someone suggest me a good Android TV box?
