MemberThis method uses the rooting script Root_with_Restore_by_Bin4ry from XDA Developers. It should work on Mediatek based MT/MTK 6577 phones running Android 4.0 or 4.1.
First, you must install the driver if not already installed. You can read this thread or this one to install driver.
File you need: [ATTACHMENT NOT FOUND]
Steps:
- Download and extract the Root_with_Restore_by_Bin4ry package and extract it somewhere on your PC.
[ATTACHMENT NOT FOUND] - Connect your phone
- Run the “RunMe.bat file”. A command propmt like the one below will open.
[ATTACHMENT NOT FOUND] - Type 1 and hit Enter. Script will start copying files to phone.
- You will see something like the below picture on your phone. Do not enter any password and tap Restore my data.
[ATTACHMENT NOT FOUND] - If the rooting is successfull, your phone will restart.
- When you see SuperSU in Applications, you can enjoy your rooted device!

If you are still in doubt, you can download and install Root Checker Basic from Google Play and verify.

MemberHey, thanks for posting. Just to contribute…
Tested this on my MTK6577 STAR B92 android 4.1.2 but sadly it didn’t work.Tried it a few times (using normal mode). First time it hung, second time it brought up the restore screen on the phone but the phone didn’t restart. Third time, the restore screen came up and the phone restarted but no root access when it booted back up.
The script looked like it ran without problems with only one error in the process “mount: permission denied (are you root?)”
Will keep an eye out for developments

I am having the same problem with rooting my EZIO B92B as seen on ebay. Every method I know has failed. Also, when I double-tap the android 4.1.2 sign in the setting, it never shows me the Jelly-beans like other devices running 4.1.2.do. PLease help me figure what is wrong.

MemberFor an update for my Star B92M (apparently the 2013 version, sorry forgot build num).
MOKHD ‘s post on forum.xda-developers (the alternate method posted) worked to root and flash a new rom with everything working. wifi, dual sim, 3g data.
Sorry not allowed post direct hyperlink.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2193376With the one negative is that the rom posted to flash has small partitions (512MB) and my phones internal space is 4GB (so i think i had a ~2GB partition before) so now I’m stuck with it until I figure out how to repartition or someone posts the same rom with more space.
But it works, might have to link stuff to the external sd card as 512MB runs out quick for apps.
Hope it helps

Well, I used the method in the opening post, and that worked OK on my s9920.
Warranty isn’t something I worry about. As I’m living in Europe and bought the phone in China, having to return it to China would cost more than buying a new one almost :shy:
I’m more concerned about future updates of Android, as all the sources seem to be closed-source…
