Ulefone has released information on the fingerprint ID technology featured on both their Be Touch and Be Touch 2 flagship smartphones detailing the processes the company took to design the technology into their smartphones.

ulefone-betouch-fingerprint-01According to Ulefone, they initially decided to use either a round-shaped or square-shaped rear-mounted fingerprint scanner similar to the one found on the Huawei Mate 7 even to the point where the design of the Be Touch actually accommodates a rear-mounted sensor. The company revealed that their initial decision was because rear-mounted fingerprint sensors are easier to implement but in the end decided for a home button fingerprint sensor.

Ulefone also revealed that their sudden change in decision was because they realized that placing the fingerprint sensor on the home button would be more familiar and natural to customers instead of a rear-mounted one. They also said that it would be more convenient for customers to use a home button fingerprint scanner as it didn’t require them to lift up the phone and also allowed them to use any of their fingers instead of just their index finger.

Choosing what type of home button fingerprint scanner was also a challenge for Ulefone, as they have also revealed. The company had a choice between a plastic and ceramic panel with the former being cheaper but less visually and ergonomically pleasing while the latter better fit the devices design and was more technically responsive. In the end, the company ended up with a ceramic panel for their fingerprint scanner.

Lastly, the company said that since most, if not all, smartphone fingerprint scanners currently in the market only function for easier and faster device security, the home button placement truly does make more sense.
