Snapdragon 820 To Be Officially Unveiled On August 11th

Snapdragon is a suite of system-on-chip (SoC) semiconductor products designed and marketed by Qualcomm for mobile devices.

There’s no mystery that the Snapdragon 810 caused a lot of problems since its release, not only for Qualcomm but for several smartphone manufacturers alike.

According to a new report from China, Qualcomm will announce more details on the upcoming Snapdragon 820 SoC on August 11 at a special press conference in Las Vegas.

Snapdragon 810 overheating has affected numerous smartphones, with many potential customers avoiding handsets such as the HTC One M9 or the Sony Xperia Z3+ specifically because of reports of overheating or severe throttling.

In this context, it’s fairly obvious that Qualcomm has a lot going on its upcoming high-end chipset, the Snapdragon 820.

So far there have been plenty of rumors targeting the SoC’s specifications, but the most certain thing about it is that it will pack a series of custom cores dubbed “Kryo”, instead of making use of ARM’s Cortex architecture.

While, other rumors say that CPU will work side by side with an Adreno 530 graphics chip clocked at 650 MHz & that it will offer support for LPDDR4 RAM, 4K video decoding @60fps, 4K video encoding @30fps, and LTE Cat.10 on-board just to name a few.

If this recent report from China turns out to be accurate, then it won’t be long before Qualcomm officially unveils the complete specification set for the Snapdragon 820.

So, the general consensus seems to be that the first smartphones powered by the Snapdragon 820 won’t reach the market until 2016.
