The Elephone P8000 might be exactly the smartphone the company needs in order to break the boundaries and establish a foothold in the western markets. This is because unlike most other Elephone devices powered by MediaTek, the P8000 boasts worldwide LTE bands which means prospective customers outside of Asia can actually take advantage of 4G speeds. In addition, sources indicate that the Elephone P8000 might be priced at roughly $210, and that would make for a very interesting package indeed.
One of the reasons why Elephone hasn’t been extremely popular in the western hemisphere is because of MediaTek’s processors. Not that there’s anything particularly wrong with MTK’s chipsets, but they are more or less specifically designed for the Asian market and so they lack support for global LTE bands. However the MediaTek MT6753 released earlier in March does offer support for worldwide LTE bands, making it the company’s first SoC truly designed for worldwide availability. Well actually it’s a redesigned MTK6752 but nonetheless, it should get the job done.
Needless to say the Elephone P8000 uses the Mediatek MT6753 SoC which, as some of you know, sports an octa-core Cortex-A53-based processor clocked at 1.5 GHz per core, and a Mali-T720 MP4 graphics chip with frequencies of up to 700 MHz.
The P8000 flaunts a 5.5-inch display with a resolution of 1920 x 1080; features 3 GB of RAM and 16 GB of internal storage, and stores energy in a generous 4,200 mAh battery. The smartphone also boasts a 13 MP primary camera complemented by a 5 MP front-facing unit, and comes with a back-fitted fingerprint scanner.
Other notable features include dual-band Wi-Fi, Bluetooth 4.0, and apparently there will be two variants available for purchase: a single SIM and dual SIM respectively. Last but certainly not least, the Elephone P8000 appears to be running Android 5.0 Lollipop out of the box.
