I’m sure you’ve seen one or two of those Android watches that looks so gimmicky and you don’t really know what you want to do with it, plus it can be expensive. Ars Technica somehow was able to run real Android apps on Samsung Galaxy Gear!

This of course need some technical know-how. You need ADB on your computer and you need to set up the phone for USB debug. You would also need the APK file of the app you want to run which you’d have to sideload into the device. More info on how it’s done here.

Here’s the Samsung Galaxy Gear at work, making use of the usual Android app.

Magnificent idea by Samsung. But do you see that somehow in the future everyone will wear one even if we don’t know what really to expect from it, or it would be so popular that even vagrant people gonna wear it?
in such thing an APK is not going to be a great idea because it’s like a phone, what would i do with it beside talking calls or reading texts.
Still it’s a graceful way to short things up but i think it’s too early for a smart watch.

This should just be a feature, not something you need to work out for yourself. It would be great if it could just run standard Android apps, the functionality of the Gear would increase ten-fold.

Hmm. I will say I found the watch intriguing. My only complaint is the fact you have to reach the internet through your phone or something to that effect. Yes, I am a woman who has to have internet access on my phone or watch. With that said, the Android Watch does look like you’re getting a reputable product for the money you pay. After all, if there’s Samsung logo on it, you better get the best!
