Umi Cross, the latest handset from the Umi team, is now available and has received some really good reviews. I’ve got a chance to test it and would like to share with you guys the hands-on review of this model.
The device is very similar to the X2 with quad core MT6589T processor, 1.5Ghz frequency, 2GB RAM and 13 mega-pixel rear camera, but it is packed with a much larger 6.44 inch screen and 1920*1080 Pixel screen resolution. Before digging into any detailed specs, let’s take a look at the exteriors of the phone.
Umi Cross Compared with Zopo ZP990With a screen size of 6.44-inches, Cross is probably among the biggest smart phone sizes, but it doesn’t feel like it’s too big to handle. The edge-to-edge width is about 3mm which helps keep the overall width to 89 mm, and the length is 174 mm.
It is pretty thin, and with the curved design, it feels very comfortable when you hold it.
The back of the phone is removable and is filled with sparkling tiny squares, which looks pretty cool and stylish. The 13 MP rear camera is located in the middle, with LED flash light and sensor right beneath it. The screen side edge is made of metal to help protect the screen and interior from knocks and drops, the rest is made of plastic.
On the top right corner of the phone is a 3.5 mm headphone jack. The Micro USB plug is found on the bottom side in the center. Both of the volume control and power button are located on the up right side, while the volume control is above the power button. There is no physical home button, and the three buttons that we are familiar with, i.e. home, menu and back button all are backlit. Now let’s take a look at the specifications.

Umi Cross Performance
My general observation is that the phone handles things quite well. It takes a very short time to turn on, and has no problem browsing the internet, playing games, and watching videos. When running games like Temple Run and Shadow Gun, there is no notable slowing and it runs very smoothly. It handles multi-task pretty well too, since I like to play music in the background while using the internet and replying my emails.
I have ran a number of benchmarks on Umi Cross, and it scored pretty much as expected.
A video review is available here too.

Here are some sample photos I took with the phone.
Conclusion
Right now at GeekBuying the phone is selling for $349.99, which might seem a little pricy. Therefore, I’ve got a $30 coupon for all the readers of Droidchina. Coupon code: XVDXRJSW, valid until Oct 30th. With that, you can get a 6.44-inch phone with powerful performance, nice features, great camera, as well as GPS and any other functions you may need for daily use. The phone definitely is a great choice if you have high demand for build quality and performance, as well as screen size!October 26, 2013 at 8:58 AM #14788I have some coupons for Umi X2 too! Private message me if you want them
