Xiaomi and Others Will Be the First to Use MediaTek Deca-Core Processor

It’s become widely known that MediaTek is currently working on finalizing and releasing its Helio X20 processor that features Tri-Cluster architecture and ten processing cores (Deca-core) and that the company plans to begin shipping the new processor sometime in the last quarter of this year. Today, reports from Taiwan have suggested that the upcoming and highly anticipated Helio X20 processor will first be featured in devices from Xiaomi, Huawei, ZTE, Meizu, and Lenovo. The reports mention that these companies are already working on new devices that come equipped with the new processor.

Additionally, even bigger international companies are also in the process of testing and trying out the new processor to see if they want to put it in their upcoming devices. These companies include the likes of LG, Sony, and HTC. So there’s a chance we might see Helio X20 replace the more popular Snapdragon processors from these companies’ upcoming flagship products.

The Helio X20, also known as MT6797, uses a new Tri-Cluster architecture, based on 20nm processor technology, features ten processing cores including two A72 cores (clocked at 2.3-2.5GHz), four A53 cores (clocked at 2GHz), and four A53 cores (clocked at 1.4GHz). The Helio X20 also integrates an ARM Mali-T8xx MP4 GPU with a frequency of 700Mhz. The new processor can supports up to a 25-megapixel camera, a 2560 x 1600 pixel resolution screen, two LPDDR3 933MHz memory, Cat 6 baseband support as well as LTE FDD, TDD LTE, TD-SCDMA, CDMA 2000, and EVDO networks.

With the fourth quarter 2015 release of the Helio X20, we should be seeing devices that use the new processor sometime in second quarter of 2016 which is right about the time when companies like Xiaomi, Huawei, and the rest start revealing and releasing their new flagship devices. We’ll have to wait and see how popular the new X20 becomes and if it is able to outperform the new processors from competitor Qualcomm.
