Lenovo acquired Motorola Mobility back in 2014 for a hefty sum. Last year, around this time of the year, Lenovo laid off a large number of Motorola employees and now it is doing the same thing all over again. It seems like that history is repeating itself as Lenovo is again shedding staff of Motorola mobility division.
According to new reports that have made their way to the internet, there are around 1200 employees in Motorola Mobility, and Lenovo is going to lay off around 700 or so employees thus removing a big chunk of Motorola staff. It appears that Lenovo is strategically doing this as the Chinese brand is moving ahead to shift its operations to native China. This might be a cost effective strategy on part of Lenovo.

The original Motorola brand we knew off is long gone and the current state of affairs paints a very bleak picture of Motorola’s future. With around 500 employees remaining in Chicago, could we see the company operating from China? Lenovo says that’s not going to happen, but let’s wait and watch.
