Huawei Unveils New Flagship P8 Smartphone With Advanced 13MP OIS Camera

Huawei has just unveiled their newest flagship device, the Huawei P8, at a big conference in London. The new P8 features a full aluminum body coupled with a 5.2-inch IPS NEO display with a screen resolution of 1920 x 1080 pixels giving it a pixel density of 424ppi and a screen-to-body ratio of 78.3% which is one of the highest in the market.

The body also features Spill Resistant Nano-coating Technology which helps protect the phone from liquid spills and even sweat. Additionally, the P8 will be available in four different colors – Mystic Champagne, Prestige Gold, Titanium Grey, and Carbon Black.

The P8 is also the first smartphone to feature a 4-color 13-megapixel RGBW camera image sensor. The new sensor gives the images 32% higher brightness, better contrast, and 78% less color noise in low light. The P8’s camera also features Optical Image Stabilization, a DSLR-level Independent Image Signal Processor (ISP) which also helps with raw noise reduction as well as scene recognition, a Light Painting for light graffiti and tail light tracking, and a Director Mode for professional video story creation.

The processor also has big.LITTLE architecture which combines four A53 enhanced cores (4 x 2.0GHz) with four A53 (4 x 1.5GHz) standard cores for 20% improved power efficiency.

The Huawei P8 is also powered by 3GB of RAM, 16/64GB of storage, and a 2,600 mAh battery that gives the device, according to the company, 1.5 days of battery life with normal usage. The P8 also features dual-SIM/dual-4G LTE support with its nano-SIM slot and nano-SIM/microSD hybrid slot. The hybrid slot can support either a nano-SIM or a microSD card up to 128GB in size.

huawei-p8-launch-02Huawei has announced a slew of new exclusive hardware and software features that come with the P8 including Huawei Signal+ which is a dual-antenna design with seamless switching technology which optimizes the device’s reception no matter how you hold the device or even at high-speeds (e.g. on a train). The P8 also comes with Huawei WiFi + which automatically chooses the best Wi-Fi connection in your area so you won’t have to manually switch hotspots when you move around. Then there’s Huawei Music+ which is the P8’s built-in Audio DSP Hi6402 + Smart PA (power amplifier) and single box audio chamber for clear and loud music or audio playback.

The company also understands that some of the P8’s users are travelers so they’ve included a few features that cater to them including Huawei Roaming+ which is the company’s network database that makes piggy-backing on other networks in foreign countries faster. There’s also the Smart International Dialer that automatically adds the country code of the number you’re trying to call so you won’t have to.

The P8 also plays hosts to a number of new and unique features including a new Rich Touch usability feature called Knuckle Sense Technology which lets users capture screenshots and crop them by using just their knuckle. The phone is able to detect whether the user is tapping with a fingertip or knuckle and respond appropriately to the gesture.

Users need only say a user-defined phrase to wake up the P8 then ask it where it is and the phone will respond making it easier for users to find their misplaced phones. Lastly, along with the P8, Huawei will release an e-ink back cover for the new smartphone with a 4.3-inch e-ink display so users can read books and other information without fear of damaging their eyes.

huawei-p8-launch-03The Huawei P8 will be initially available in more than 30 countries including the UK, France, Germany, China, Hong Kong, Singapore, the Philippines, Spain, Mexico, the UAE, South Africa, and Saudi Arabia, with more countries getting it later on.

The Standard version of the Huawei P8 with 16GB of storage will come in either Titanium Grey or Mystic Champagne at a retail price of €499 while the premium version with 64GB of storage will be available in Carbon Black or Prestige Gold for €599.
