Huawei Honor Note 8 official: 6.6-inch 2K Screen, Kirin 955 & More

Huawei seems to be on a roll this year. After unveiling the Honor V8 flagship, it announced the Honor 8 smartphone series recently and now, within a few weeks of its launch, the company has made the massive phablet, the Honor Note 8 official in China. Although Huawei is not new to phablets since the company’s Mate series have been 6-inch devices, the new Honor Note 8 takes things to a whole new level by using a 6.6-inch 2K display on board. This is even larger than Xiaomi’s Mi Max, which comes with a 6.44-inch display panel with 1080p resolution. So, Huawei has made sure that the phone has enough punch to taken on and in most cases, beat the Mi Max, at least in terms of specifications.

Considering its massive display, there is no doubt that the company is targeting users who watch a lot of videos and play a lot of games on their phones. The 2K resolution screen makes sure that even with the 6.6-inch panel, the pixel density is 443 ppi. The phone is using a Super AMOLED panel with 105% NTSC color gamut coverage and 70000:1 contrast ratio. The screen brightness can go as low as 4.8nit to ensure that the display is pleasant to your eyes at night.

As for the design, the Huawei Honor Note 8 looks quite similar to its smaller sibling, the Honor V8. The phone features a premium metal body and 2.5D glass up front. The body is pretty thin, measuring just 7.18mm. It weighs 219 grams. There will be three color options, gold, silver and grey.

Inside, the Honor Note 8 comes with the Kirin 955 octa-core chipset with 4GB RAM and 32GB/ 64GB / 128GB storage options. For camera, the phone comes with a 13MP RGBW sensor with f/2.0 aperture, OIS, and DPS/ GPU dual noise reduction. Up front, you have a f/2.0 aperture 8MP sensor.

Like the Xiaomi Mi Max, Huawei has used a large battery inside the new Honor Note 8. You get a 4500mAh battery inside which the company claims is good enough for 13 hours of video playback and more than 2 days of average usage. It supports fast charge as well (9V 2A). You also get split screen multi-tasking option on the phone, which makes sense since there’s so much of display to play around. Then, there’s USB Type-C connectivity. The phone supports dual SIM dual standby with 4G LTE. It also features 3MIC omnidirectional recording which ensures clear audio recording on the phone.

So, what do you think about the device?
